The Dark Knight Rises: Did The Ending Spoil The Enitre Trilogy?

The Dark Knight Rises was the most anticipated movie of the year, by far. It should finish up being one of the biggest grossing films of the year too. Some fans had even talked up the final instalment of Christopher Nolan's movie as a possible 'Best Picture' Oscar winner - though that now seems a distant memory.

For the majority of the film, 'The Dark Knight Rises' does a decent job of tying up the loose ends in the trilogy and fans were happy enough - until the end that is. (Spoiler to come). Family audiences were happy enough with the film, though the diehard Christopher Nolan fans watched on in disbelief as the entire trilogy collapsed in front of their eyes. According to Cinema Blend's Sean O'Connell, "I could hardly believe the director behind such flawlessly structured and perfectly plotted films as Memento and The Prestige would sign off on this travesty". In a last-minute twist, Bruce Wayne somehow managed to escape an atomic blast, swim to safety and jet off to France with Catwoman. It also so just happened that he bumped into his old butler Alfred in a European cafe. As O'Connell adds, "This is akin to Nolan showing his audience the Inception top falling over. No room for ambiguity. No point in discussion. Time to spoon-feed a happy ending to the masses".

Nevertheless, the movie is on-course to gross $1 billion, so Oscar or no Oscar, Warner Bros executives will hardly be complaining.
