The Cult - The Cult To Release First Album Since 2007

British rock band The Cult is set to release their first album in five years. The group's ninth studio album is called Choice of Weapon and will be released on May 21st, 2012. The Cult will also be announcing plans for a world tour in the near future.

Formed in the northern city of Bradford in 1981, The Cult has experienced several line-up changes throughout their thirty year history. Currently, the band comprises: Ian Astbury (lead vocals, percussion); Billy Duffy (lead guitar); Chris Wyse (bass) and John Tempesta (drums). The Cult split in 1995, due to backstage tensions but soon reunited in 1999. Unfortunately, it wasn't for too long, as the band split again in 2002. Again, it was a short hiatus and the band reformed in 2005.

All of The Cult'S albums have been critically acclaimed and well received by the public. Their breakthrough album was their second studio album. Entitled Love, it was released in 1985 and sold 2.5 million copies worldwide.

Following the release of their eighth album, Born Into This (2007), frontman ASTBURY told El Paso times that 'There will be no new album. I don't think we'll ever see a Cult album.' However, during a concert at London's Hammersmith Apollo in January 2011, ASTBURY announced that The Cult were returning to the studio. Two EPs followed later that year: Capsule 1 and Capsule 2, released in September and November 2011 respectively.

Choices of Weapon was produced with long-time collaborator Bob Rock (Bush; Metallica) and Chris Goss (Queens Of The Stone Age; U.N.K.L.E.)
