Will Ferrell - The Campaign Not Quite On The Winning Trail

The Campaign, the latest film staring funny men Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, has had it's first round up from critics, and so far it doesn't quite look as though it will win over voters straight away. Whilst some critics have been wholly positive in their write ups for the mad-cap political comedy, others have been scathing in their reviews.
One positive comes from Entertainment Weekly, which decided that the film delivered "big belly laughs" and "leaves no satirical stone unturned".
However, some other reviews have been less than forgiving. Take Usa Today's view of the film; whilst it gave the film some plaudits, ultimately the critic thought that the slogan of Zach's character -'It's a mess' - might as well be describing the movie in which he co-stars (rather than a reference to the government). Likewise, Rolling Stone are slightly impressed, but hardly balled over. Their review of the film complains that the "jokes never go deep, the toothless bites at the system leave no marks. It's only the wild-card energy of Ferrell and Galifianakis that keeps you on the ticket." The film currently scores a 'fresh' 64 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Campaign follows long-term congressman Cam Brady (Ferrell) who commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, alerting a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs who put up a rival candidate (Galifianakis) in a bid to gain influence over their North Carolina district.
