The Bourne Legacy Switches Release Dates To Avoid Box Office Clash With Batman
The latest in the Bourne films was scheduled to hit cinemas on 3 August (12) - the same day as director Len Wiseman's Total Recall remake and two weeks after Christopher Nolan's final Batman film The Dark Knight Rises - but movie executives at Universal Pictures have decided they'd rather avoid a tussle with Farrell and Christian Bale's blockbuster juggernaut.
The Renner-fronted Bourne franchise project will now hit cinemas a week later on 10 August (12).
A statement released on Friday (22Jun12), announcing the date change, read: "Just as The Avengers demonstrated marketplace sustainability that well outpaced traditional patterns earlier this summer, the industry expects a similar trajectory for The Dark Knight Rises.
"Moving one week further from its release will give The Bourne Legacy an even greater opportunity to maximise its opening box-office potential."
