'The Bourne Legacy' Hits Back At Haters To Take No.1 Spot

After three successive weeks atop the U.S. Box Office, The Dark Knight Rises has been knocked from atop its perch following a successful opening weekend for 'The Bourne Legacy', the latest edition to the espionage franchise

The conclusion to the Batman trilogy fell all the way to third in the box office, with the Jeremy Renner starring Bourne film taking the number one spot with an estimated $40.3 million debut, despite mixed reviews. Meanwhile, Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis took the second spot with the political comedy The Campaign took a commendable $27.4 million on its opening weekend. Another newcomer also took to the charts, as the Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones staring conjugal comedy-drama Hope Springs took the forth spot with $15.6 million worth of ticket sales. Although coming nowhere close to the $69.3 million debut of Matt Damon's last portrayal of the relentless Jason Bourne in 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum, the new film still performed commendably and adds further light to the already gleaming star that Renner is becoming.

The latest Bourne film sees Renner alongside Rachel Weisz and Ed Norton as another offshoot of the same spy programme that Jason Bourne was a part of in the original trilogy. Again, it follows a blacklisted spy as he out runs and outwits Government officials trying to cover up the programme he was once a part of.
