Beatles - The Beatles Museum To Close
A German museum dedicated to The Beatles will close at the end of June (12) due to a lack of visitors.
The Beatlemania museum in Hamburg, which opened in 2009, houses over 1,000 pieces of Fab Four memorabilia, but the venue has failed to attract enough interest from fans and spiralling costs have forced the owners to shut it down.
Manager Folkert Koopmanns tells local newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost, "In view of the high deficits, there is no solution left but closure, if you want to act responsibly.
"A privately-run museum as big as Beatlemania is condemned to fail without public support. That's a fact that we fought against until enthusiasm turned into resignation - a bitter experience."
The venue has only attracted 150,000 visitors since its launch, even though Beatles fans around the world continue to snap up priceless memorabilia from the band's heyday.
Last month (May12), a rare photograph featuring The Beatles crossing Abbey Road sold for $25,000 (£16,000) at auction.
