Beatles - The Beatles Considered Final Gig At The Pyramids
The Beatles considered wrapping up their career with a gig at the Pyramids outside Cairo, Egypt, according to drummer Ringo Starr.
Promoting his new album at SiriusXM's Town Hall radio event on Monday night (30Jan12) - the 43rd anniversary of the Fab Four's final performance - Starr revealed he and his bandmates thought about going out in style with a spectacular final gig.
He said, "The four of us were thinking... 'We'll do (our last concert) at the Pyramids, or we'll do it in Hawaii in a volcano'. We had all these big, grandiose ideas and at the end you say, 'Sod it, just let's do it on the roof.'"
The Beatles final show took place on 30 January, 1969, on the roof of their Apple Corps record label building in London and Starr admitted he regrets the fact he wasn't hauled off by police after the authorities showed up to stop the impromptu gig.
Starr added, "The police came to stop us, and I was on the roof (saying), 'Come on, drag me off!' It would be so dramatic, and the damn cop wouldn’t drag me off!"
