The Bank Job Tops UK Box Office After Opening Weekend

by | 05 March 2008

New crime thriller The Bank Job has broken into the UK box office charts at number one after its first three days on release.

The Jason Statham-starring crime movie took £951,013 in its opening weekend to beat Will Ferrell's new comedy Semi-Pro to the top spot.

Scripted by Likely Lads writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, The Bank Job tells the story of a real-life 1971 London bank robbery, the existence of which was covered up by a government D-Notice gagging order due to the secrets contained in a safety deposit box.

Last week's number one, action movie Jumper, fell to third after two weeks at the top of the charts, while the other new entries - romcom The Accidental Husband and serial killer movie Untraceable - entered at sixth and eighth respectively.

Oscar-winner Juno dropped one place to fifth while There Will Be Blood stayed in seventh after the best actor success of leading man Daniel Day-Lewis.

The top ten movies at the UK box office are: (last's week position)

1 The Bank Job - £951,013 (-)
2 Semi-Pro - £774,698 (-)
3 Jumper - £758,003 (1)
