The Amazing Spider-man Reboot Already Smashing Records
The Amazing Spider-Man is already smashing box office records, as it became the top grossing film in terms of first day takings when it opened its doors to American audiences yesterday (Tuesday 3rd July).
Box-office experts had predicted that the web-slinging reboot of the franchise, which stars Brit actor Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, might earn around $120 million after its first week in cinema, although its strong start indicates it could do considerably better than this. These opening-day results show the resilience of the Spider-Man brand and show that it still packs a punch when in the box office. The first time the franchise was adapted for cinema, it broke box-office records throughout 2002 to 2007 when the three films were helmed by director Sam Raimi and stared Tobey Maguire as the web-slinging superhero.
This time round, the aptly named Marc Webb has taken on direction duties, making The Amazing Spider-Man more of a reimagining that a prequel/sequel, as it retells the story of how a bite from a radioactive spider bestows gawky teenager Peter Parker with super strength, agility and spider-like senses. Alongside Garfield and Stone, the film co-stars Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and SALLY FIELD.
