Thames Torso Confirmed As Eastenders Actress Gemma Mccluskie, 29
A dismembered torso found in the River Thames in London has been confirmed as that of the former Eastenders actress Gemma MCCluskie, BBC News reports today (March 9, 2012). Gemma's body was found in Regent's Canal in the Hackney district of East London on Tuesday March 6, 2012). A 35 year-old man - believed to be her brother - has been arrested and is being held in police custody.
Gemma MCCluskie, who died aged 29, played the role of Kerry Skinner in Eastenders in 2001. She went missing after attending the opening of the £650 million Royal London Hospital on March 1st and her former Eastenders co-stars Brooke Kinsella and Natalie Cassidy had both appealed for help in finding her, via their Twitter pages. When the news of Gemma's death was confirmed, Kinsella posted a message that read "Thinking of you Gemma. I am so so sorry. Despair of the world we live in sometimes. RIP darling xxx".
Police officers are reportedly reviewing CCTV footage of her movements and police divers continue the search for body parts. Detective Superintendent Fiona Mallon is leading the investigation into her death and has said "We also urge anyone with any significant information about this case to contact us as soon as possible. In particular we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity around her home address in Pelter Street in Bethnal Green."
