Taylor Swift - Taylor Swift Breaks Download Record With Breakup Song
Taylor Swift has broken the record for downloads for a female artist. Not content with being perched at the top of the under-30s 'rich list,' or leaving the Grammy awards with a clutch of gongs, or being named Entertainer of the Year at the Acm Awards, or dating one of the Kennedy clan (that's considered an achievement in some circles, right.?), Taylor has decided that she's not done making headlines just yet. According to Mtv News, her recent 'break-up' single, 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' just set a new record for paid downloads for a female artist.
The song, which is set to debut at the top of the Billboard singles chart, sold 623,000 downloads in the week of August 19; making it the biggest digital sales week for a female artist, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The record was previously set by Kesha's 'Tik Tok' back in 2010. Another 13,000 sales and she would even have bested the overall record for digital downloads, set by Flo Rida, with 'Right Round' back in 2009. Swift was quick to thank her fans for helping her to achieve the record, posting a message on Twitter to say "I want to thank you guys for giving me my biggest first week ever with 'We Are Never.' I can't stop smiling. You guys are amazing!!"
Swift will be making her debut TV performance of the track at next month's Mtv VMA Music Awards. She'll be performing live at the ceremony, along with No Doubt, Green Day and ONE DIRECTION.
