Tagore Humbled By Aids Orphan

Indian film legend SHARMILA TAGORE was humbled when she met a 12-year-old AIDS orphan in Uganda, who was bringing up her five siblings alone. The MISSISSIPPI MASALA actress, 59, visited the African nation last year (05) after accepting her role as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF). Speaking at the 16th International AIDS conference in Toronto, Canada, yesterday (17AUG06), Tagore was stunned when she met young ALICE, who had been caring for her brothers and sisters since the tender age of eight. She said, "I was not prepared for what I saw. "We went to this little tiny place, in the middle of nowhere. There was no electricity, there was no water, they were totally unprotected. It was such a humbling experience."
