Syd Barrett - Syd Barrett Artwork And Rare Photos Go On Display28 February 2011
Syd Barrett: Art and Letters is the largest ever exhibition of the former Pink Floyd guitarist's work, and organisers insist it offers a "rare insight" into the reclusive rocker's world.
The exhibition includes rare photographs of Barrett's childhood holidays, love letters dating from the early days of Pink Floyd, and unseen pictures of the band before they found fame. An extensive range of Barrett's paintings will also be on display.
Barrett's sister Rosemary Breen says, "Syd would be so surprised and pleased to know this exhibition is taking place. He was never more content than when sketching or painting, be it cartoons, abstracts or still life. Syd felt above all he was an artist and loved experimenting with different mediums, sometimes just to see what might happen!"
The exhibition runs at London's Idea Generation Gallery from 18 March (11) to 10 April (11).
Barrett, who left Pink Floyd in 1968, died from cancer in 2006.
