South By Southwest - Sxsw Opens Today With Jay Z Announcement Highlighting Its Current Profile
Sxsw rumbles into action today with the first of its Interactive and Film events taking place; however what the Austin, Texas festival has become synonymous for is its music program which has grown ever larger over the years, and the announcement earlier this week that Jay Z - a past Coachella and Glastonbury headliner among others - will be performing at the event has now proved that the six day music schedule is now one of the hottest bills to get on the world over.
Whilst for Hova the sort of crowd he'll be playing in front of on March 12th will be miniscule by his usual standards, the significance of his appearance is huge and will ensure that the eyes of the whole world will be on Austin for the next week or so; Perez Hilton reports that Jay Z will be live-streaming his performance worldwide through Twitter and Youtube and in a further attempt at fan interactivity will be allowing fans to pick his set list via Twitter by using the hashtag #song, they can also contact Z himself with the tag #JayZSyncShow.
He'll be one of literally hundreds of acts performing between the music section, with the main program running between March 13th and 18th. Last year over 2,000 acts played the festival, representing 57 different countries and playing at over 90 different venues. Over 16,000 music industry professional turning up over the course of the week to watch them play, it wouldn't be a surprise if those figures were beaten this year.
