Four-times world surfing champion STEPHANIE GILMORE has been hospitalised after she was attacked by a man with a metal pole outside her home in Australia.
The 22 year old suffered a fractured wrist and cuts to her head and hand as she fought off the assailant outside her apartment in Tweed Heads, New South Wales on Monday night (27Dec10).
She was treated at a local hospital and a man was reportedly arrested at the scene later that night, according to Australia's Gold Coast Bulletin.
The unnamed man was charged with a number of offences including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He was refused bail in a hearing at Tweed Heads Local Court on Tuesday morning (28Dec10) and is due to reappear via video link from Grafton Correctional Centre on 10 January (11).
