Danny DeVito, Christina Aguilera and Jon Bon Jovi Among Superstars Who Show Support For Hurricane Sandy Benefit

America is still rocked by the devastating aftermath of hurricane Sandy, and the thought that 'never would a disaster like this happen to me' seemed to resonate on the faces at the Sandy Benefit Concert on Friday (Nov. 2).

The star power drawn in was impressive, with such entertainers as Bruce Springsteen, Danny DeVito and Mary J Blige each pledging their time to the good cause.

Opening the night's proceedings was Staten Island-born Christina Aguilera, who kicked things off with a powerful and stripped down rendition of her song 'Beautiful'. Relying solely on her vocals, Xtina packed a heft punch that delivered all the way home. Next up to perform was New Jersey's Jon Bon Jovi who first gave a shout-out to his hometown of Sayerville, N.J., before re-appropriating his hair-rock hit 'Livin’ On A Prayer' to suit the sombre mood in the studio.

The show was, as most benefit broadcasts are, hosted by a variety of celebrities pleading with the audience to give what they could to such a worthy cause. Friday's programme was no different as alongside main host Matt Lauer, many locals stopped by to plea man the telephones and speak to the audience, including Danny DeVito, Tina Fey, Jon Stewart and Jimmy Fallon. Fallon gave one of the lighter performances of the night actually, as he, Steve Tyler, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Mark Rivera performed a cover of the Drifter's 'Under the Boardwalk'.

Tyler's Aerosmith also performed on the night as did Joel, Mary J Blige and Sting, who gave a moving rendition of The Police's 'Message In A Bottle.' Finally closing off the night was Jersey's Springsteen and his E Street Band, performing the meaningful track 'Land Of Hope and Dreams' before signing off with "God bless New York, God bless the Jersey shore."
