Superproducer Hired To Salvage Spider-Man Musical

A rock producer who has worked with the ROLLING STONES and U2 has been drafted in to rescue the troubled SPIDER-MAN musical.

Work on the multimillion dollar Broadway production - which has been scored by the Irish rock giants - was delayed this year (09), amid rumours of financial difficulties and spiralling costs.

But Michael Cohl announced over the weekend (07-08Nov09) he had signed up to take over the production and ensure it debuts in 2010 as planned.

Cohl also confirmed relative unknown Reeve Carney had been cast in the lead role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, joining Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming in the show's cast.

It's unknown if Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark will be ready to preview on 25 February (09) as originally planned, or make the Tony Awards deadline of 29 April (09), but Cohl claims he is "very close to having in place the financing that we need and getting everyone back to work on the musical".

Spider-Man is expected to become the most expensive Broadway musical ever, costing an estimated $50 million (£31.35 million).
