Sundance To Hit London Again For 2013 and 2014
Sundance London, which debuted in April of this year, will return to the O2 Arena in Greenwich for the next two years, it has been announced.
According to The Telegraph, Robert Redford, President & Founder of Sundance Institute said, "Sundance was warmly welcomed to London last year, by engaged and adventurous audiences eager to take a chance on independent film, and this makes a second year all the more exciting for us. The vibrant arts community in London has informed this decision as much as anything." Next year's Sundance London event will be held between 25-28 April, and will show films which were premiered at January's Sundance festival in the US. "Seeing what comes of nurturing a broader global community for new voices and varied perspectives in American independent film and music seems a worthy 21st Century endeavour," Redford added.
The Sundance Film Festival takes place each year in Utah, and features the best work from American and international independent filmmakers. It's the highlight of the film geek's calendar, and the extended European run will be music to the ears of many. This year's Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic winner was Beasts of the Southern Wild, which has gone on to receive remarkable critical praise and is surely in line for recognition come Oscars time. Sundance has also been the springboard for the careers of many filmmakers, most notable that of Quentin Tarantino.
