Sugarland - Sugarland 'Moved' After Stage Collapses Killing Five

Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles says she is "moved by the pain of those who were injured" in a fatal stage collapse before her band's concert at the Indiana State Fair over the weekend. The band were due to play to around 12,000 people when the stage gave way following a sudden storm, killing five and injuring hundreds.
In a statement to the Associated Press, Nettles paid tribute to the Indianapolis fans who attempted to help those trapped in the rigging, saying, "I am so moved. Moved by the grief of those families who lost loved ones. Moved by the pain of those who were injured and the fear of their families. Moved by the great heroism as I watched so many brave Indianapolis fans actually run toward the stage to try and help lift and rescue those injured". The singer claimed there was "no words" to sum up the gravity of the situation and asked for God to provide peace to those who had lost their lives. The Indiana State Police said the event staff had contacted the National Weather Service four times between 5.30pm and 8pm on the evening of the concert. The organisation said a storm was expected to hit the fairground event at 9.15pm. Concert-goers had enjoyed a set by singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and were awaiting Sugarland to take to the stage, despite a severe weather warning that had advised them how to evacuate. Eyewitness Jessica Alsman said the metal scaffolding, "kind of wobbled at first", before collapsing into a heap.
Grammy Award-winning Sugarland subsequently cancelled their performance at Iowa State Fair on Sunday (14th August 2011).
