Sugarhill Gang Among Stars Suing Over Royalties
Members of both bands are among a group of stars who have taken legal action against Universal Music Group over allegations they are owed payments from an agreement with All Platinum Records, which was run by late singer Robinson, and Sugar Hill Records, which she later set up with her husband.
Many recordings from the record labels were taken on by the Sanctuary Records Group, which became a division of Universal in 2007.
Joseph Robinson, Jr. is suing on behalf of Robinson's estate and the other plaintiffs include Sugarhill Gang member Henry Jackson, musician Edward Fletcher, The Moments star Billy Brown and a representative of the estate of his late bandmate Albert Goodman.
The lawsuit was filed in The Supreme Court of the State of New York, according to Allhiphop.com.
