Suede - Suede Play New Songs At Hop Farm

Suede debuted new material as they closed Hop Farm Festival last night (01.07.12).

The 'Trash' hitmakers - who reformed in 2010 after a seven-year hiatus - interspersed a greatest hits set with two new songs, 'Sabotage', and 'For The Strangers'.

Introducing the latter - which was being performed live for the first time - frontman Brett Anderson said they had wanted to ''do something special'' for the crowd in Kent.

Prior to their performance, the group had revealed they planned to showcase some new songs.

Bassist Mat Osman exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ''You don't get an amazing light show, or flying helicopters with us, it's all about the songs.

''With a festival crowd, you play your more well-known hits but then we're going to play some new songs tonight as well.''

Prior to Suede's headline set, Richard Ashcroft had the entire main stage audience singing along as material from his former group The Verve - including 'Sonnet', 'The Drugs Don't Work', 'Lucky Man' and closer 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' - made up the majority of his hour-long performance, playing just three tracks from his solo career.

Before playing 'History', he quipped: ''This one's a minor masterpiece. I've got some major masterpieces, but this is just a minor one.''

The previous evening, legendary singer Bob Dylan closed the main stage after performances from artists including Damian Rice, Patti Smith and Sir Bruce Forsyth, while Primal Scream played to a packed-out tent.

The first night of the three-day evening saw Peter Gabriel and the New Blood Orchestra headline, while other performers included Ray Davies, Billy Ocean and Gomez.
