Studiocanal Buy Rights To 'The Alan Partridge Movie'
French production company StudioCanal have attained the theatrical rights in the UK to the upcoming 'The Alan Partridge Movie'. The movie is set to shoot from January next year (2013) with a release date of August 16th 2013.
Alan Partridge himself commented on the news: 'I'm simultaneously gladdened and pleased to see a British film being co-funded by the French dudes at StudioCanal. This is without doubt the greatest Anglo-French co-operation since the Normandy landings.'
The film, which is supported by BBC Films and funded by the BFI Film Fund, sees the return of the one and only Steve Coogan who also co-wrote the movie alongside Peter Baynham, Armande Iannucci and Neil and Rob Gibbons. Produced by Kevin Loader and Henry Normal, it is also the second film to be directed by Declan Lowney after his RomCom 'Wild About Harry' which starred Brendan Gleeson and James Nesbitt. He has also done work on various episodes of popular comedy series' 'Little Britain' and 'Father Ted'.
After dramas involving Partridge being a National TV broadcaster, accidentally causing the death of a live TV guest and broadcasting on a local radio station, 'The Alan Partridge Movie' details one of his biggest predicaments yet; trying to save his career after a vehement battle with a media giant that threatens his North Norfolk radio station. Iannucci tells The Guardian: 'He's on North Norfolk Digital, which is taken over by a bigger media conglomerate and has its name changed to Shape. And that kicks everything off.'
