Stormy Weather 'Prevented Jagger Murder Attempt'

by | 03 March 2008

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger was the target of a Hells Angels assassination attempt, it has been claimed.

A former FBI agent told BBC Radio 4's The FBI at 100 series that Jagger became a target after a dispute over concert security.

He said the Hells Angels tried to reach Jagger's home in Long Island, New York, by sea but stormy weather prevented them from doing so.

The boat used by the group almost sank and "they never went back and reinstituted the plan".

According to the BBC, the row began after a teenage fan died at a Rolling Stones concert at Altamont Speedway in California.

Hells Angels had been hired as security for the event but were fired following the death.

Presenter Tom Mangold said the FBI regarded the assassination plot as a serious attempt, although it is not clear whether Jagger knew about it.

Former FBI agent Mark Young told the documentary: "They were gong to kill him for retribution for firing them."

The programme will be broadcast on March 11th at 15:45 GMT.
