Stone Temple Pilots - Stone Temple Pilots Fire Scott Weiland. Passive Agression Ensues.
Scott Weiland has responded to his sudden and unexplained termination from the grunge band Stone Temple Pilots.
The grunge band Stone Temple Pilots have made some changes to the lineup – well, one big one, to be exact – terminating frontman Scott Weiland.
And if that term sounds somewhat matter-of-fact to you, well that’s because it is. The news came in the form of a conspicuously brief announcement on Wednesday – eleven words to be exact. No reason was given behind bassist Robert DeLeo, guitarist Dean DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz’s decision to kick out Weiland. The change comes after the band’s fairly recent reunion in 2008. Before this, during the time apart, Weiland performed with Velvet Revolver, alongside former members of Guns’n’Roses. The vocalist is far from lacking any other options at this point. In fact, he is just about to embark on a solo US tour, starting Friday in Flint Michigan. However, in light of the firing, Weiland certainly didn’t hide his confusion.
“I learned of my supposed 'termination' from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press," he said in a statement. "Not sure how I can be 'terminated' from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that's something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday.”
So, it seems like both sides have a lot to prove at the moment. Legal battles aside, it’ll be interesting to see who the fans choose to side with.
