Steven Van Zandt - Steven Van Zandt Reteams With Sopranos Boss For Garage Music Movie
Rocker/actor Steven Van Zandt has reteamed with The Sopranos creator David Chase to serve as music consultant and mentor for his first feature film.
The guitarist, who played Silvio Dante in The Sopranos, was commissioned to find the music and license it for Chase's movie Not Fade Away, which chronicles a group of New Jersey high-school kids as they put together a garage band in the mid-1960s.
Van Zandt says, "I had to design what the band sounds like as they go from 1962 to 1968, and to have that be authentic."
The rocker, who also runs a satellite radio station - Little Steven's Underground Garage - dedicated to garage music, reveals he created a three-month bootcamp for Chase's young stars so they'd look and sound authentic.
Chase spent a fortune on the rights to the music featured in the film - but Van Zandt insists it could have been much higher, adding, "It helped that I happen to know a couple of Beatles and a couple of Stones."
