Steven Spielberg - Steven Spielberg Won't Retire Before Eastwood
Steven Spielberg will not retire until his friend, 81 year old Clint Eastwood, decides too.
Steven Spielberg has "no plans" to retire from filmmaking.
The 65 year old - who has directed 50 films in his career - will continue to work in Hollywood as long as his friend and fellow director Clint Eastwood, who is 81, does not leave.
He told BANG Showbiz: "I have no plans to quit. Clint Eastwood is one of my best friends, and we have a joking relationship about retirement. Clint's like 81 and I always go, 'OK Clint are you ready to retire this year?' And he says, 'No are you?'
Discussing his new movie 'War Horse' - based on the story by Michael Morpugo - Steven believes it is more of a love story than one about war because the battle scenes in the First World War-set film do not amount to a big part of the picture.
He said: "What makes this unique is that it is a story of love and a story of war, but I don't really see this as a war story. If you really look at the movie, there's really only 15 minutes of combat in the film.
"I wanted families to see this movie, there's almost no blood in the movie at all. I took a different approach to this movie [from 'Saving Private Ryan'] so for me it's a combination of both. Courage and combat."
