Steven Soderbergh - Steven Soderbergh's Behind The Candelabra To Compete For Palme D'or At Cannes
Director Steven Soderbergh will bow out of the movie industry with a bang - his Liberace biopic Behind The Candelabra has been nominated for the top prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
The movie, starring Michael Douglas as the flamboyant pianist, has been billed as Soderbergh's final project before he retires from Hollywood later this year (13) to concentrate on his efforts to become an artist, and it has earned him a place in competition for the prestigious Palme d'Or award at the annual French gala.
The film, which will premiere on U.S. Tv network Hbo in late May (13), will face off against Roman Polanski's Venus in Fur, Joel and Ethan Coen's Inside Llewyn Davis and Nicolas Winding-Refn's Only God Forgives, starring Ryan Gosling. Alexander Payne's Nebraska and The Immigrant by James Gray are also among the titles in the running for the coveted title.
The 66th annual Cannes Film Festival will open on 15 May (13) with Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.
