Steven Soderbergh - Steven Soderbergh Denies He Has Retired From Film Making

Steven Soderbergh has denied rumours he has retired from film making.
The Oscar winning director is currently in Venice where he is premiering his latest movie Contagion at the 2011 Venice Film Festival. "It's just a sabbatical" he told the Observer "I feel I need to recalibrate, so I can discover something new, I'm out of ways of telling art " he went on to add. Soberbergh is the youngest winner of the prestigious Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival which he won at 26 for his movie Sex, Lies and Videotape; he has also directed Traffic and Erin Brockovich. The director also spoke about his latest thriller which sees a global virus threaten the human race ""It's very helpful to have movie stars playing as many of these roles as you can, because you're throwing so many characters and so much information at the audience it's very helpful for them to get a sort of reference point." Starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Laurence Fishburne, Contagion will be in cinemas this October (2011).
Born in Atlanta, Georgia Soberbergh rose to prominence with a series of low-budget independent movies including a biopic about writer Franz Kafka starring Jeremy Irons. He later moved up to directing big budget movies including Ocean's 11 starring Hollywood A-listers Brad Pitt and George Clooney as they attempt to rob a Las Vegas casino.
