Steve-o Explains Name Change

MTV star STEVE-O - real name STEPHEN GILCHRIST GLOVER - created the name Steve-O to avoid any connection with Hollywood actor DANNY GLOVER. The former JACKASS star, notorious for such antics as stapling his scrotum to his thigh, became increasingly annoyed with questions linking him to the LETHAL WEAPON star, even though the latter is black and Steve-O is white. Glover tells MTV news, "By the age of eight I was frustrated with that stupid joke, 'Any relation to Danny Glover?' So I eradicated the last name. "When people ask me what the 'O' stands for, it's very simple. I tell them, 'It stands for f**king nothing, you idiot!"

"Girl why is you lying, girl why you Mufasa," he rhymed. "Yeah, mi casa su casa, got stripper like Gaza/Got so high off volcanoes, now the flow is so lava." With his face illuminated only by the lights, Gambino was then joined by a marching band similarly lit up.

Wearing a vest, board shorts and sneakers, Gambino - aka, the comedian Donald Glover - quickfire rapped, "Hip deep in the Pepto/I got five on her like Ben Folds/I got more tail than that Petco/You faker than some Sweet'NLow"

The mtvU Woody Awards went down in Austin, Texas - the home of SXSW - earlier this week, though we've only just got our first look at the performances from the night, which aired on MTV on Sunday.

Woodie of the Year - or "the artist that completely owned the past 12 months" - went to Drake, who released his critically acclaimed third studio album and appeared on just about every hip-hop track released.

Miley Cyrus Goes 'Unplugged' For MTV (And 5 Other Memorable Performances) 4046637 News

Last night, Miley Cyrus took to the stage for her MTV Unplugged performance featuring Madonna, a pantomime horse, plenty of sequins and of course, twerking. Miley told the audience she wanted to 'bring Nashville here for the night,’ and she certainly did, first dressed in a red gingham ensemble complete with cowboy boots and then denim sequinned trousers and shirt with a matching bra underneath, topped off with a cowboy hat.

Miley preformed hits such as 'Wrecking Ball' and 'Do My Thang' as well as a cover of Dolly Parton’s 'Jolene'. However, the highlight of the night was undoubtedly the Teen Queen taking to the stage alongside her idol Madonna for a performance of their hits ‘Don’t Tell Me’ and ‘We Can’t Stop’ combined. Madonna was dressed right for the occasion, wearing a black cowboy outfit with silver sequins. The pair enjoyed some raunchy dancing together, with Cyrus tweeting afterwards ‘I SPANKED @Madonna (hard) (& she liked it).’

Miley’s full on unplugged spectacular seems a long way away from some of the show’s most memorable, more stripped down performances. In 1991 Paul McCartney first brought attention to the show with his appearance which included Beatles hits alongside some much rarer tracks.

Mariah Carey then cemented herself as one of the decade’s greatest female singers when she took to the stage in 1992. She performed a cover of ‘I’ll Be There’ by the Jackson 5 which went on to be a Billboard number one single and led to the release of her full Unplugged album.

Perhaps the most iconic Unplugged session was from Nirvana in 1993. Their appearance would be one of their last performances as singer Kurt Cobain died five months later. They won a Grammy in 1996 for Best Alternative Music Performance for their 50 minute set which included some of their lesser known songs as well as covers.

British rock band Oasis had a different set up than usual when they taped their performance in 1996. Singer Liam Gallagher pulled out at the last minute leaving brother Noel to take on lead vocal duties, all whilst Liam heckled from the balcony. Noel pulled it off, however, leading to one of the band’s most acclaimed performances.

Finally Jay-Z proved that rap could go ‘Unplugged’ too perfoming in 2001 with hip hop band The Roots. The subsequent album would go on to sell over 600,000 copies.

Swizz Beatz Focused On Helping Dmx With Comeback Album 3959258 News

Hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz is determined to help embattled pal Dmx get his career back on track by focusing all his efforts on completing the rapper's new album.

The Party Up (Up In Here) hitmaker, real name Earl Simmons, has struggled to stay out of legal trouble in recent years and was arrested earlier this month (Nov13) for the fourth time in 2013 alone, after he was pulled over at an airport in South Carolina for driving on a suspended licence. He was also charged with driving without insurance and driving an unlicenced vehicle.

The arrest occurred as Dmx prepared to fly to New York for a comeback appearance with Beatz on U.S. daytime programme The Wendy Williams Show, but the interview and performance was subsequently scrapped.

Beatz has now spoken out to assure fans the rapper, who has previously struggled with drug issues, is doing well, and he insists the follow up to 2012's Undisputed will be worth the wait.

He tells Mtv's RapFix Live host Sway, "Everything is Dmx for me right now. It's my main focus because it's what started everything...

"He's been going through a lot of different things but... he's Dmx! He's good; he's in good vibes. But wait until y'all hear this music though - y'all gon' really know how he is. We working hard on that and I can't wait. I can't wait (sic)."

Alexa Chung Learned Life Skills From Alex Turner Split 3879597 News

Tv presenter/socialite Alexa Chung is glad she took time away from dating after splitting from Arctic Monkeys rocker Alex Turner as she had no idea how to cope without a man in her life.

The former MTv girl broke up with Turner in 2011 after four years together, and the romance had come hot on the heels of her three-and-a-half year relationship with photographer David Titlow.

Chung was left distraught by the split and has only allowed herself several casual flings since the break-up, because single life made her realise she did not even know how to change Tv channels properly.

She tells Britain's The Guardian, "I'm not heartbroken any more, but I definitely was... It was various people. There was one big thing, and then there were various ill-advised flings I had to get over him, so yeah... But is this gross to talk about? I feel he wouldn't talk about it. I don't know how relevant it is now, whereas if you asked me at the time, 'How you doing?' No one even asked... But I don't know whether to be open and vulnerable about it and say, 'I had a s**t time', or to be quiet...

"But I don't want to imply he broke my heart. I was grieving for the loss of something... I'm grateful for the experience of that s**t time, and for being on my own. I'd never really been on my own before - I'd always gone from one relationship to the next - so I had to learn all this stupid stuff. Like, how do I work my f**king Tv? And now there isn't a dude to tell me how to put up the blinds. But it's good to learn how to work your way round a drill."

However, Chung reveals she still remains close to Turner, adding, "Oh yeah, he's my best friend."

Miley Cyrus Strips Off Again For Another Raunchy Performance 3876861 News

Miley Cyrus proved she has no plans to tone down her saucy onstage antics in the aftermath of her controversial Mtv Video Music Awards performance by taking to the stage at a festival in Las Vegas with her breasts and backside on display.

The former child star, who provoked a storm of criticism over her saucy show with Robin Thicke at the Mtv awards show in August (13), was among the headliners at the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Saturday night (21Sep13) at Sin City's MGM Grand Garden Arena, and she stunned the audience by performing in another barely-there outfit.

Cyrus, who was introduced by pop superstar Britney Spears, took to the stage wearing nothing but skimpy panties and nipple pasties under a completely see-through mesh dress.

The provocative show was a contrast to her earlier performance at the festival during the day on Saturday, when she made her return to the stage for the first time since confirming her split from fiance Liam Hemsworth.

Cyrus' voice cracked during an emotional rendition of her latest single Wrecking Ball, and she was seen with tears streaming down her face. She also brought several small people on stage with her to perform her signature 'twerking' dance move during the early set.

The festival's line-up also included Justin Timberlake, Sir Paul MCCartney, Sir Elton John and Katy Perry.

Although Cyrus wore a silver teddy which she removed to reveal a flesh coloured bikini. Throughout her performance she used a giant foam hand as a prop which she used provocatively to reference a number of sex acts.

Cyrus' performance was greeted by a wave of horror from fans. However, Cyrus claimed "I don't pay attention to the negative because I've seen this play out so many times in pop music." She went on to use examples of other pop stars who have performed outrageously and raised more than a few eyebrows in their time. She stated "Madonna's done it, Britney's done it, any VMA performance, you know anyone who performs that's what you're looking for. You're wanting to make history."

It seems the singer was perfectly aware of how her performance would be received and evidently intended to court this publicity. Speaking in the interview she said "Me and Robin always said "you know we're about to make history right now." She went on to comment on the sheer amount of publicity she had received as a result of her performance, "What's amazing is now we're three day later and people are still talking about it."

However, she attempted to claim she had no intention in causing a scandal. She claimed fans are "overthinking it" and that "You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. I didn't even think about it because that's just me."

The 29 second clip clip was of a longer interview, posted by MTV. It is extracted from a documentary MTV has commissioned which is due to air this fall, according to their website, Cyrus will discuss her image, her music and her influences.

Around fifty friends attended the event.

Those attending the funeral service tomorrow will be a number of The Bachelor contestants who competed alongside Allemand.

Gia Allemand's Mother Will Speak At Daughter's Funeral On Thursday 3822954 News

Everyone seems to have something to say on the death of Gia Allemand. Her mother has issued a statement warning against false sources, whilst The Bachelor's representatives have claimed that support is in place for contestants.

Allemand was found unconscious on Monday (12th August) by her boyfriend NBA player Ryan Anderson. She was rushed to hospital and placed on support in ICU. It has later transpired she had hung herself. Sadly, she was taken off life support on Wednesday 14th August after "critical loss of brain and organ function."

Her mother, Donna Micheletti, released a statement to People on Friday 16th which chastised speculation fuelled by social network sites and false sources. Micheletti stated that "the family and close friends of Gia Allemand have not spoken to the media to date, nor have they posted comments or insight on Twitter." She warned media outlets not to trust a number of sources who claim to be close friends with Allemand. Micheletti mentioned one name in particular and stated her daughter had not trusted this individual.

She continued by promising that, after the funeral, she would put the record straight on the life and death of her daughter. In another statement, the funeral date was confirmed. It will be held in New York at Trinity Grace Church in Chelsea at 11am.

Meanwhile, The Bachelor producers and management have been discussing their support network. The host of the reality show, Chris Harrison, as reported by the New York Daily News said "we go to great lengths to ensure these people are OK."

That's all fine, but Allemand had not been a contestant on The Bachelor since 2010. In the past three years, did Allemand have the same support? In addition, many people choose not to disclose whether they suffer from a mental illness, even to their loved ones, for fear of the social stigma attached.

Contactmusic sends their condolences to Gia Allemand's family, friends and colleagues at this time.
