Steve Carell is set to star in 'Imagine'.
The 'Dinner for Schmucks' actor will play a lead role in the comedy drama about an ageing rocker who goes on a hunt for his son (Carell) because of a letter written to him by John Lennon inspiring him to change his life.
The movie will be the directorial debut of 'Cars' screenwriter Dan Fogelman, who has yet to cast an actor in the role of the music star.
Carell will produce the project, which does not yet have a start date.
The 48-year-old star has already collaborated with Dan Fogelman on the upcoming 'Crazy, Stupid, Love' with Emma Stone and Julianne Moore due for release in 2011.
It is not the only movie project for Carell in the near future - he is also set to star in 'The Abstinence Teacher', about a divorced sex education teacher, with Sandra Bullock, which is currently in pre-production and set for a 2012 release.
