Stern's Rest Stop Shut Down

U.S. government officials have denied an interstate highway rest stop named after radio shock jock HOWARD STERN was shut down after patrons began using its public restrooms for sex.
Howard Stern Rest Stop along I-295 in New Jersey - named after the raunchy satellite radio host in 1995 - was allegedly closed last year (07) after state officials discovered motorists were using its bathrooms for x-rated romps.
The portable toilets installed outside the pit stop have reportedly failed to put an end to customers' lewd behaviour - prompting officials to block off the entire parking area.
But state officials are blaming the nation's economic recession on the closure.
A spokesperson for the New Jersey Transportation office tells the New York Post: "Unfortunately, it's a sign of the economic times. The cost of maintaining it was too much."

Jonah Hill And The Art Of Apologizing Like An Alright Human Being 4228671 News

Well, at least Jonah Hill knows how to apologize like a grownup. The 22 Jump Street star had a run-in with a pap over the weekend and he lashed out, yelling at the man: “"Suck my d***, you f*****!”

Jonah Hill
It looks like Hill is aware of why and how his words were hurtful and inappropriate.

It wasn’t his highest point, to be sure, especially considering that Hill is an outspoken LGBT+ supporter and has worked with the Human Rights Campaign to spread awareness before. To his credit, however, when Hill went on Howard Stern yesterday, there were no excuses or non-apologies of the “I’m sorry you were offended” variety. Despite Stern giving him the opportunity to deny it, saying that he couldn’t really hear what the actor was saying, Hill faced his gaffe head on. His exact words (via TMZ) were: “What I said in that moment was disgusting ... I shouldn't have said that.”

Jonah Hill
Still, he could have spared us the "gay friend" comment.

Hill did explain that the pap had been following him around all day and making unwelcome remarks about him and his family, however he didn’t skirt around the problem or try to excuse the slur. His otherwise great apology did veer into “I have gay friends” territory at one point, with Hill saying that he just happened to be spending the rest of the day with a gay friend, who was getting married soon. Oh, well. The perfect is the enemy of the good, etc.

Speaking of good, Hill’s apology was good enough for the Human Rights Campaign. A rep for the organization said of his apology: "All around the world, LGBT young people go to bed at night and stare at the ceiling, sleeplessly wondering what awaits them the next day at school or at church or even in their own home. Hateful words like the one Jonah used are more harmful than he can ever know, especially to kids who hear nothing but negativity about being LGBT. We're glad to see that Jonah is willing to turn this into a teachable moment and we hope others will learn from his mistake."

Will Jonah Hill's Homophobic Slur Damage His Pristine Reputation? 4227645 News

Uh oh, Jonah Hill’s really put his foot in it. Lately he’s been riding high off his superb performance in The Wolf of Wall Street and is widely considered to be an “all round nice guy.” This perception of him is even parodied in the film This is the End, in which the actors all play exaggerated versions of themselves.

Jonah Hill Homophobic Slur Jonah Hill has discussed the incident in which he used a homophobic slur with Howard Stern

That’s why it came as such a shock to hear that Hill used a homophobic slur over the weekend. The slur was caught on camera and the 40-second clip has been released by TMZ. In the clip Hill yells at a photographer, “Suck my d***, you f*****!”

Hill told Howard Stern on SiriusXM satellite radio show that the photographer had been harassing him throughout the day, saying “hurtful things about my family,” and “really hurtful things about me personally.” The Superbad actor added, “This is a heartbreaking situation for me.”

When Stern questioned why Hill appeared angry that the situation had been raised, he replied, “Anger’s not the right word at all. I’m upset. Because from the day I was born, and publicly, I’ve been a gay rights activist.”

MORE: Leonardo DiCaprio: "Jonah Hill changed The Wolf of Wall Street"

Hill explained that the photographer’s harassment of him led him to use the slur, “I played into exactly what he wanted and lost my cool. In that moment, I said a disgusting word that does not at all reflect how I feel about any people.”

The actor then told Stern how he had grown up with gay family members and would be attending a close gay friend’s wedding that day. Despite explaining all this to Stern, he made clear, “I’m not at all defending my choice of words. But I am happy to be the poster boy for thinking about what you say and how those words…even if you don’t intend them and how they mean, they’re roots in hate and that’s bullsh*t.”

He told Stern that he intended to use the situation he finds himself in to complain about how the press hound celebrities: “I should have said either nothing or just, ‘F*ck you.’ Instead I used a word I don’t use in my personal life, it’s not part of my vernacular…I’m happy to take the heat for using this disgusting word…I basically meant, ‘You f*cking a**hole.”

Jonah Hill Homophobic Slur Hill has described the incident as "heartbreaking"

Jonah’s explanation does sound heartfelt and sincere. And more importantly, like he actually came up with it himself, unlike some other stars, naming no names (*cough* Justin Bieber). What is missing is an outright apology, although that does seem to be implied in what he was saying and he does seem genuinely upset about the situation.

For his sake we hope that an unintended slip of the tongue doesn’t damage his reputation, because we truly believe that he is one of the good guys.

Drugs, Alcohol, A Super Group With Sting - Billy Joel's Chat With Howard Stern 4173367 News

When Billy Joel started talking about his rocky history with alcohol and his dabble with heroin, most thought that the interview had reached the rocky depths of the legendary musician’s inner soul. But it was his loose plans for a super group, including himself, Sting, Don Henly and “another guitarist”, that proved to be his scariest admission.

Opening up Monday in a two-hour interview in front of 100 fans in a New York City town hall setting, Joel took Stern and the lucky guests – lucky because they were obviously fans – on a journey through his song writing secrets, and the drug that would lead to the song “Scandinavian Skies” from 1982’s ‘The Nylon Curtain’. “It got me so high, I didn’t know how to deal with it,” he said of trying heroin. “It scared me.” (THR)

Scarier still: “I liked being in a band. Someday we might put together a silly super group,” said Joel on the possibility of a super group comprising the aformationed artists. No one needs a super group with Sting in it. Doesn’t need to happen. No way.

Elsewhere in the interview, Joel opened up on his religious past, explaining that he’s jewish, but attended church services growing up. “I grew up in a neighborhood of mostly Italian, Irish and Polish. Everybody went to mass…. My mom decided I would get religion when I was 11 and she took me to a Protestant church. Then I got baptized.” And asked if any of that bestowed an opinion on heaven or hell…  “I’m not going to say there is or isn’t, I just don’t believe there is.”

Howard Stern Questions Stephen Colbert's Decision To Become The New 'Late-Show' Host 4165580 News

So far the decision to have Stephen Colbert as the new host of the 'Late-Show' has been met with praise, even from the likes of other talk-show stars such as Conan O'Brien.

But not everyone in show-business is happy with the 49 year-old funnyman leaving Comedy Central's 'The Colbert Report' to replace David Letterman, who will retire in 2015.

The notorious radio personality, Howard Stern, recently expressed his view on Colbert's future job, stating that he could be making a mistake.

While entering the premiere of 'America's Got Talent,' Stern, who is a judge on the show, spoke with E!News and stated, "I don't know if that was the right choice for him," when referring to Colbert's career change.

"Everyone assumes that the best thing is to have a show at 11:30 at night," Stern, who was rumoured to be on the list of Letterman's replacements, continued.

"Stephen Colbert is a tremendous talent, but what he does so well is that he has this fantastic character that lampoons the right wing and he's on a great slot, makes a lot of money and it seems like such a great place for him," the 60 year-old added. "Why would he want to leave that just to go interview an actress about her latest movie? I'm not sure, although he does interviews on his show. I wonder if he'll be happy in that slot."

However, Stern did praise Colbert when saying, "I think CBS is lucky to get him."

Howard Stern On The David Letterman Host Opening: "My Plate Is Full" 4142641 News

David Letterman's recent announcement that he will retire once his current contract expires has got a lot of people guessing who the successor of the longtime 'Late Show' host will be.

One of the names that is on everyone's lips is the 'King of All Media' himself, Howard Stern.

But the radio DJ has recently squashed the idea of hosting a late night talk-show because his "plate is full."

While arriving in New York for 'America's Got Talent' auditions on Friday (April 4th), Stern addressed the thought of himself taking over Letterman, noting how he has enjoyed being a guest on the show in the past.

"I've been doing the show for years and years and I've had so many funny, great times with him that, you know," he said, via the Associated Press. "It'll be weird not to have him there."

However, on of Stern's fellow judges Heidi Klum thinks that the 60 year-old is perfect hosting material.

"Howard is very special, you know?" he said. "He gets right to the chase. He's not scared of anything, and I like that about him. He gets things out of people. Sometimes people don't even want to like say certain things, and he gets it out of them."

For any Stern fans out there that wants to see this happen, there is little hope. While talking with E!News at the same event, he did talk about how busy is current schedule is but didn't completely rule out the idea.

"I'm so busy with radio and AGT and I've had a few other things going on, and no one has asked me," Stern explained. "And I've been offered talk shows in the past but who knows."

Letterman announced his retirement plans on last Thursday's (April 3rd) episode of the 'Late Show'.

Could Howard Stern take over from David Letterman?

Anderson Cooper Has No Trust Fund From Millionaire Mom 4135688 News

Anderson Cooper may be sitting on millions of dollars, but he insists he has no trust fund from his millionaire mother. The cable news anchor, 46, is the son of heiress Gloria Vanderbilt - of New York railroad fortune fame - though insists the family's old money won't make its way to him.

"My mom's made clear to me that there's no trust fund," Cooper told radio host Howard Stern on Monday. "There's none of that." The anchor said he "doesn't believe in inheriting money" and thinks it would be a "curse."

"Who's inherited a lot of money that has gone on to do things in their own life?" he added, "From the time I was growing up, if I felt that there was some pot of gold waiting for me, I don't know that I would've been so motivated."

Gloria Vanderbilt, 90 - a descendant of railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt - is worth around $200 million though has forged her own careers in fashion and art. "She made more money on her own than she ever inherited," Cooper said. "We believe in working."

Anderson himself earns $11 million a year at CNN and has been the network's most popular personality. He lives in a multimillion-dollar Manhattan apartment, and also has two Hamptons homes.

"Honestly, like my dad grew up really poor in Mississippi," he said, "I more paid attention to that because I thought that's a healthier thing to pay attention to than like some statute of a great-great-great grandfather who has no connection to my life."

L'Wren Scott's Will: The last will and testament of the late fashion designer L'Wren Scott has been made public. The former model was found hanged in her Manhattan apartment on Monday 17th March whilst her boyfriend, Mick Jagger, was on tour with the Rolling Stones. Jagger is the only named beneficiary in L'Wren's will, with her adoptive siblings explicitly denied any of her $9 million estate. Scott's sister, Jan Shane, has lashed out at the Jagger's for turning the designer's death into a "media circus" - read about what else she had to say.

Kate Bush Tour: Iconic British pop star Kate Bush gave her fans the news they never thought they'd receive when she announced an eventual 22-date residency at London's Hammersmith Apollo. Here's our pick of ten of her best songs. The 'Wuthering Heights' singer's planned 2014 live shows will be her first in 35 years and naturally all sold out within 15 minutes. Fleetwood Mac

Joan Rivers Gets Personal On Lena: Comedian Joan Rivers has shocked the media after she targeted Girls star Lena Dunham in a lengthy rant on The Howard Stern Show. The 80 year-old TV personality not only branded the writer "fat" but accused her of promoting obesity among her fans. Despite Stern's best attempts to play down his guest's outspoken views, Joan was "on fire" as she voiced her distaste for Dunham's body shape, despite Lena having always resolutely stood by her body positive philosophy. Read highlights from Rivers' rant here.

'Divergent' Dominates: Teen sci-fi flick Divergent has owned the box office upon its first weekend of opening, raking in $56 million - over three times more than fellow opener The Muppets Most Wanted. Watch the Divergent trailer here. Neil Burger's adaptation of Veronica Roth's popular YA fiction series proved that reviews do not equate to commercial success and looks set to take the box office by storm again this weekend. Hear Roth talking about her franchise in our featurette.

Attack Of The Turtles: Heads up, fans of '80s superhero franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! The first trailer has been released for the Jonathan Liebesman-directed, Michael Bay-produced reboot of the endlessly popular comic book franchise about a bunch of wise-cracking, crime-fighting, anthropomorphic turtles. Catch it here. Megan Fox, Whoopi Goldberg and William Fichtner star in this seriously cool-looking action blockbuster, which is set to be released this year. Check out photos from the TMNT shoot in New York, and find out how the Turtles tried to disguise themselves.

Wu-Tang Clan

Wu-Tang Clan Do It Differently: Rap unit Wu-Tang Clan have announced that they'll be releasing just one copy of their upcoming new album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, which will be a 31-track double LP. Six years of hard work will culminate in the new record, which will be toured through museums and art galleries to be heard through headphones. Find out more here. "This is like somebody having the scepter of an Egyptian king," said RZA. Does that mean a curse will be unleashed upon the album's holder?

'Frank' To Lead Sundance London: If you love your indie movies quirky, weird, slightly sprinkled with celebrity and with a funky soundtrack, you need to make sure you don't miss Lenny Abraham's London Sundance opener, Frank. Starring Michael Fassbender as the titular, Frank Sidebottom-inspired masked character, Frank also sees Maggie Gyllenhaal and Domhnall Gleeson along for this freakishly wonderful celebration of avant-garde pop music. Frank is an enigmatic band leader who is unapologetic about his refusal to take off his papier-maché head - with some hilarious consequences. See some stills from the surreal movie.

Video Of The Week - 'Blue Ruin': Blue Ruin is proof of the standard of filmmaking that can be achieved with a miniscule budget. When director Jeremy Saulnier asked Kickstarter for $35,000 he received $38,000 and got to work making this comically dark story of revenge, the cinema release of which is only just around the corner. Macon Blair plays Dwight, a vulnerable and homeless man who has hit rock bottom years after his parents' murder. He learns that his parents' murderer has finally been released from jail and decides to clean himself up and get firearm trained so that he can seek his revenge. Watch the trailer here.

Joan Rivers Says Lena Dunham Promotes Obesity, Urges 'Girls' Star To "Look Better" 4127820 News

Joan Rivers has slammed Lena Dunham for being overweight in a new interview on The Howard Stern Show. The 80 year-old television personality heavily criticised the Girls writer and actress' stance on body image, namely that she doesn't feel the need to conform to the more Hollywood ideals of female body shape. Comedian Rivers is known for her tendency for incendiary comments but in her radio interview with Stern she drove home her distaste for Dunham's image despite the host's attempt to defend the 27 year-old star.

"Let me ask you something. Lena Dunham, who again I think is terrific, how could she wear dresses above the knee?" Rivers asked on Tuesday. "I think the thing we love about her is that she doesn't give a s**t," Stern replied, referring to Dunham's body positive philosophy. "Oh, every woman gives a s**t," Rivers retorted, adding "That's wrong. You are sending a message out saying 'It's okay. Stay fat. Get diabetes. Everybody die. Lose your fingers.'" Stern argued back: "I don't think she's sending a message to anyone other than 'I want to make you laugh.'"

"I love that she's funny and love that she's done well [...] But don't let them laugh at you physically," Rivers continued. "If you look the way you look Lena, and that's fine and you're funny, don't say it's okay that other girls can look like this. Try to look better." When Stern tried to argue Lena's corner again, Rivers brought Stern's model wife, Beth Ostrosky, into the debate. "You didn't pick Lena Dunham to marry," she said.

Rivers also pointed to Dunham's slightly Photoshopped appearance on the cover of Vogue as "hypocrisy," adding "I didn't know it was her." When the hosts laughed at her for being "on fire" on the subject of Dunham, Joan said "I'm on fire over hypocrisy."

Naturally Lena's fans have leapt to the actress' defence on Twitter, shaming Joan Rivers for her remarks but a worrying number of listeners found Rivers' monologue amusing or even truthful. Dunham has always stood by her "zen body philosophy" against a strong media spotlight focussed upon how the Girls star looks. As Stern pointed out, as an actress and writer whose main entertainment goal is to make people laugh, should Lena feel pressured to look a certain way?

Lena Dunham has not publically responded to Joan Rivers' comments.
