Stein Assistant Convicted Of Murder
The woman accused of murdering THE RAMONES manager LINDA STEIN has been convicted of second-degree murder.
Stein was found bludgeoned to death in her New York apartment in October, 2007.
Her personal assistant, Natavia Lowery, was charged with the 62 year old's murder and on Tuesday (23Feb10) she was found guilty at New York's State Supreme Court.
The jurors took five hours to deliver their verdict, and also convicted Lowery on 20 charges of stealing thousands of dollars from Stein.
Speaking outside the court room, Stein's daughter Mandy fought back tears as she said, "I’m just really grateful that my mom’s getting justice. Grateful for the A.D.A.’s (assistant district attorney's) hard work, grateful for the jury’s attention. I’m just very relieved.”
But Lowery's mother Lottie and her stepfather Daniel Walsh alleged the 28 year old received an unfair trial and they intend to appeal the decision.
Walsh told reporters, "We didn’t get a fair trial. Natavia Lowery is innocent of these charges. We will be back.”
Lowery, who pleaded not guilty, faces 25 years in prison.
She is due to be sentenced on 22 March (10).
