A Broadway musical based on the history of Stax Records is in the works.
Movie producer Stuart Benjamin is developing a stage show based on the music and drama surrounding the soul label since it was founded in the 1950s.
The label began in Memphis, Tennessee and achieved international success thanks to artists including Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd and The Staples Sisters, while bosses at Stax also had to battle racial tensions during the civil rights era in the 1950s and 1960s.
The show is scheduled to premiere on Broadway in early 2016.
