Bon Jovi - Stars Share Spotlight With Heroes At Pride Of Britain Awards

30 October 2012

Charles, Prince of Wales, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and pop star Gary Barlow also attended the annual ceremony, which shines the spotlight on the country's most inspirational citizens.

The courageous winners included 16-year-old Alice Pyne, who has become an outspoken campaigner for bone marrow donations since she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, and elderly couple Flo and Jim Essex, who have pulled in more than $256,000 (£160,000) for charity by tackling hair-raising challenges, like abseiling down an eight-storey building.

Schoolboy Jack Henderson also won a prize for selling off his drawings to raise nearly $48,000 (£30,000) for Scotland's Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh, where his little brother Noah received treatment.

The evening also featured a star-studded video tribute to Britain's Olympic and Paralympic stars, filmed by Sir Michael Caine, Sir Elton John and Simon Cowell.

Take That star Barlow admits he was humbled by the winners' extraordinary stories, gushing, "Pride of Britain is a truly inspirational night. I'm always in awe at the heroism and selflessness being recognised here. It's very special."
