Ash - Stars Pay Tribute To Tragic Record Executive Tim Carr

Ash rocker Tim Wheeler and veteran producer Butch Vig are among the stars who have paid tribute to music mogul Tim Carr after he was found dead in Thailand this week (beg08Apr13).

The body of the former artists and repertoire (A&R) executive, who was credited with signing the Beastie Boys, was discovered at his apartment in Pattaya, Thailand on Wednesday (10Apr13).

Local police are investigating his death as suspicious and reports suggest he was killed by a single stab wound to the chest. Carr had lived in Thailand for the past eight years and was working on a film about a rock band at the time of the tragedy, according to Billboard.com.

Tributes from his friends in the music industry have poured in since news of his death hit headlines, and Garbage star Vig was among the first to mourn his loss. Vig says of Carr, "He was one of the kindest, funniest, and smartest people I ever met.
We would talk for hours about politics, films, food, culture, and of course music. He will be missed!"

Northern Irish singer Wheeler, whose band Ash was signed by Carr, adds in a post on Twitter.com, "Am very sad today having heard the news that our friend Tim Carr has died. He signed us to Reprise records and then Dreamworks. A great man."

Carr also signed female rock group Babes in Toyland, and bassist Maureen Herman admits she was devastated to hear of Carr's death. In a post on Facebook.com, she writes, "Tim was our A&R guy at Warner/Reprise. But he was so much more than that to all of us personally and professionally... He was my friend... He gave a lot to the world, and it is a better place for him having been in it. I feel lucky to have my life touched so dramatically by his role in it. Love you, brother. I only wish you had written the book you always talked about."

Carr worked with numerous bands throughout his A&R career in the 1980s and 1990s, most famously signing rap trio the Beastie Boys to Capitol records. He also worked with Megadeth, Lush and David Byrne, as well as Ash and Babes in Toyland.
