Stars Honour Dylan On 70th Birthday
The Blowin' in the Wind hitmaker reaches the landmark on Tuesday (24May11) and a host of his famous fans have congratulated him on his success and toasted his legacy.
Followill says, "He's a huge hero. Anyone who's ever tried to write a song feels stupid when they hear one of his. We met him on tour. I almost passed out."
Dylan's fellow folk star Baez adds, "I think he made up the stuff while he was singing. It was just amazing. His songs said the things I wanted to say," while Slash gushes, "I've played with some of the greats but Bob Dylan is one of the greatest without a doubt."
The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard says, "Dylan produces great little nuggets and phrases and sews them together in a beautiful and poetic way... He was not only a musical trailblazer he was an icon for a generation."
Neil Diamond offers, "I am a big fan. Pretty much anything he puts out I will listen to," while Arcade Fire star Win Butler says, "I got into Bob Dylan while at school. Once exposed to this music it made radio a lot harder to listen to."
Singer Jack Johnson adds, "When I was 17, I bought The Bootleg Series by Bob Dylan. On one track, he reads his poem Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie. It really influenced me."
