Star Trek - Star Trek Rifle Sold At Auction For $231,000
A one-of-a-kind Star Trek prop gun used by William Shatner for a 1960s Tv pilot has sold at auction for a record-breaking $231,000 (£144,375).
The phaser rifle, which featured in the second pilot episode of the original sci-fi series, was the top draw at the Julien's Auctions sale in Beverly Hills, California, on Saturday (06Apr13) and its hefty price tag is one of the highest amounts ever paid for a prop from the '60s show, second only to a captain's chair purchased by a collector for $304,750 (£190,469) in 2008.
Meanwhile, a customised 1965 Imperial Crown nicknamed Black Beauty which Seth Rogen drove in 2011's The Green Hornet was snapped up for $46,875 (£29,297), and a Christopher Reeve Superman Iv flying suit sold at the auction for $25,000 (£15,625).
Other popular items included an original, signed abstract painting by Frank Sinatra, which went under the hammer for $21,250 (£13,281), and a slew of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia - her bra from Some Like It Hot went for $28,125 (£17,578), a cocktail dress owned by the tragic actress sold for $25,000 and her nightshirt was auctioned off for $15,000 (£9,375).
