Staples Upset About Obama Inauguration Snub

Gospel legend MAVIS STAPLES is still sore about the fact she was left out of BARACK OBAMA's inauguration - because she feels she's at the forefront of America's civil rights movement.
The I'll Take You There singer was thrilled when the American people elected their first African-American president in 2008, but upset when Obama didn't make her part of his first-day celebrations.
In an interview with soul star Sharon Jones in the new issue of Spin magazine, Staples says, "I was disappointed that I didn't get invited to the inauguration. We (The Staples Singers) did Kennedy's inauguration, Carter and Clinton - why weren't we there for this one.
"Freedom songs are needed now more than ever."
Staples insists racism is still prevalent in America, despite the fact the country now has a black leader: "African-Americans still aren't equal... and I still feel prejudice when we're on the road."
