Bruce Springsteen - Springsteen Hitting The Road Again

Bruce Springsteen is set to hit the road for his first tour since beloved E Street Band member Clarence Clemons died earlier this year (11).
The legendary rocker was left devastated when the 69-year-old saxophonist passed away in June (11) after suffering complications following a stroke, and he gave a moving eulogy at his pal's funeral in Florida.
He later played an emotional tribute concert in memory of his late friend, and now Springsteen and his band are preparing to release new material and take to the stage for their first tour since Clemons' death.
In a post on his website, Springsteen writes, "We want you to know that the music is almost done (but still untitled), we have almost settled on the release date (but not quite yet), and that we are all incredibly excited about everything that we're planning for 2012. That's all the info we have for right now, but we'll get back to you - real soon."
The European dates will run from May (12) until the end of July, while information on the U.S. shows will be announced soon.
Springsteen's last tour wrapped in 2009.

Bruce Springsteen Shouts Out Wrong State During Concert At Connecticut 4203841 News

Bruce Springsteen's latest concert, which lasted 3 ½ hours, nearly went without a hitch.

The 64 year-old musician was performing this past Saturday (May 17th) for a packed-out crowd at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, for his High Hopes tour alongside the E Street Band.

But in an embossing moment for Springsteen, he accidently gave a shout out to a completely different state.

According to the New York Daily News, Springsteen reportedly shouted "Massachusetts!" several times, which confused many concertgoers.

After repeating this blunder a few more times, the 'Born in the U.S.A.' hit maker was corrected by the Connecticut crowd, who yelled back "No!"

However, it seemed that someone or himself quickly learned of the mistake as Bruce later made a reference to the volunteers at the Connecticut Food Bank who were asking for donations.

Apart from this, the rest of the show was flawless, with one concertgoer telling Fox News, "Oh yeah.he's still got it." Another added, "He'll keep going till he's 100."

This isn't the first time the crowd have reacted with The Boss on the High Hopes tour.

Earlier this month, when performing in Louisiana, Bruce sent a sold-out crowd at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival into a frenzy after he downed a full beer given to him by a fan.

In another lengthy three hour-long set, the singer accepted the drink off a concertgoer who made his way through the crowd during the show. Following this, Springsteen made another fan's dream come true when he invited a female devotee onstage a performance of 'Dancing in the Dark'.

New Orleans Jazz Fest Finishes On A High Note 4180685 News

The New Orleans Jazz Fest finished on a high note on Sunday May 5. Montreal-based band Arcade Fire had local musicians Pinettes Brass Band onstage with them, providing accompaniment and, at one point, a wordless rendition of Wake Up.

The night before had belonged to The Boss. Saturday night saw Springsteen take to the stage, opening with High Hopes, the eponymous track from his latest album. Unsurprisingly, he drew a huge audience who were blown away by his set, which featured performances of the usual tracks from his most recent tours.

Christina Aguilera took to the stage at Fair Grounds, growing baby bump and all. The Voice coach was fifteen minutes late to start her set, but once on stage exclaimed to the audience, “My senses are heightened, you smell wonderful.” Performing Nina Simone’s Sugar In My Bowl and B.B. King’s The Thrill Is Gone, she aptly gauged the tone of the festival. However, her closing tracks, Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love, her collaboration with rapper Pitbull, Feel This Moment, and Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger (perhaps a nod to fellow The Voice coach and past New Orleans Jazz Fest headliner, Adam Levine) weren’t quite in tune with the theme of the festival.

It's That Time Of Year Again! New Orleans Jazz Festival Returns With Another Two Weekends Of Music Mythology 4166660 News

New Orleans Jazz Festival 2014 logo

It's that time of year again where New Orleans go all out to prove they are one of the most culturally rich cities in North America with their annual two-weekend event, the New Orleans Jazz Festival.

The Jazz Festival has expanded to two long weekends since its inaugural year in 1970, meaning that more people than ever can get the chance to enjoy the fine music culture of Louisiana. The Queen of Gospel Mahalia Jackson appeared at the first event alongside renowned orchestral composer Duke Ellington, and from then on the festival has gone from strength to strength and has never once lost the spirit that has made it so loved.

The music isn't the only culture you can experience over the Spring weekends; the New Orleans Jazz Festival is well prized for its extensive local cuisine which has become such a major part of the event that you can now even see demonstrations from various chefs on the Food Heritage and Cajun Cabin Stages. Also, you'll never be short of something to look at with the numerous crafts displays such as the Congo Square African Marketplace and Louisiana Marketplace.

Eric Clapton will no doubt be a weekend highlight

Music is, however, the heart of New Orleans' favourite occasion and with twelve different stages to choose from, everyone's bound to find something they can immerse themselves in. Most of the fun will be taking place at the Acura Stage, Samsung Galaxy Stage and Congo Square Stage, with Acura being the place to be on day 1 (April 25th) as it showcases legends such as Latin rockers Santana to newcomers like chart sensation Laura Mvula. North Carolina's The Avett Brothers will also be worth a look over on Samsung Galaxy. April 26th brings more joys with Boz Scaggs in the Blues Tent, Robert Plant And The Sensational Space Shifters, ad lib icons Phish and 'Blurred Lines' hitmaker Robin Thicke. The following day continues to build the excitement with celebrated guitarist Eric Clapton and New York rockers Vampire Weekend.

Arcade Fire performing at the Roundhouse
Arcade Fire will be bringing a taste of pure rock to festival proceedings

Weekend 2 begins on Thursday, May 1st with Beyonce's talented sister Solange at Congo Square and bluegrass favourites The String Cheese Incident at Acura. May 2nd is all about the big voices of Chaka Khan and Christina Aguilera, while Alabama Shakes share their roots with New Orleans on the Samsung Galaxy Stage. Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band will be the main focus of May 3rd at Acura, with Trey Songz highlighting Congo Square and Foster The People bringing power to Samsung Galaxy. May 4th will by no means be a comedown with the likes of Arcade Fire and soul legend Bobby Womack on the bill.

The New Orleans Jazz Festival has such a wealth of musical culture that it would be a shame for anyone to miss out. It's probably a little late to order tickets now, but if you can get yourself over there for tomorrow or next week it's just $70 per weekend on the gate.

'Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame' Tonight: Joan Jett To Step In For Kurt Cobain? 4149081 News

Today's the day! A new year's worth of rock royalty will tonight be ushered into the coveted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. Nirvana, KISS, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, Hall and Oates, the E Street Band, Andrew Loog Oldham and Brian Epstein are hours away from becoming the newest members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Krist Novoselic Dave Grohl
Former Nirvana Rockers Dave Grohl & Krist Novoselic Will Be Performing At Tonight's Ceremony.

Stevens, now called Yusuf Islam, is going to perform alongside the E Street Band, who are being inducted b Bruce Springsteen, as well as Gabriel. Emmylou Harris, Carrie Underwood, Stevie Nicks and Bonnie Raitt will reportedly be singing a tribute to Ronstadt. SPIN is reporting that Joan Jett will sing the Nirvana tunes, which has ignited rock fan's imagination more than any other rumour.

Joan Jett
Joan Jett Is Strongly Rumoured To Be Stepping In For The Late Nirvana Frontman, Kurt Cobain.

A quarter of a century after the release of Nirvana's debut, Bleach, the grunge rockers are finally being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Jett, singer in The Runaways and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, is strongly rumoured to be stepping in for the late Kurt Cobain, whose death's 20th anniversary passed this week.

Michael Stipe
R.E.M Star Michael Stipe Will Be Presiding Over Nirvana's Hall Of Fame Induction.

The rumour was further fuelled by an Instagram post from Dave Grohl's current band, Foo Fighters, appearing to show Krist Novoselic's bass, Pat Smear's Fender Stratocaster, Grohl's drum set and what is allegedly Jett's Melody Maker. If Jett is to perform with the former Nirvana rockers, the previous theory that R.E.M frontman Michael Stipe is set to fill in for Kurt will be disproved.

Stipe will also preside over the 'In Bloom' rockers' induction, which will be attended by Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, and daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. Love has publically feuded with Kurt's former bandmates but previous quarrels will seemingly be put aside to honour a special night in rock 'n' roll history.

Courtney Love
Courtney Love Will Be Putting Disputes To One Side To Celebrate Nirvana's 25th Anniversary.

"I haven't seen [Dace and Krist] in 20 years," Love told BBC Radio 4 last week. "I wasn't even going to go . [but] as long as it's in service to Frances, everyone's going to be a good boy or a good girl," the Hole singer added.

Tonight's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony will be telecast May 31 on HBO.

Why '20 Feet From Stardom' Deserved The Oscar for 'Best Documentary' 4128979 News

In the weeks leading up to the Oscars, pundits were divided about which documentary would win the big prize, most predicting The Act of Killing, the innovative, staggeringly powerful exploration of Indonesia's death squads. But anyone who had seen the background singer doc 20 Feet From Stardom knew it was probably more likely to take the award.

Not only is the film a hugely crowd-pleasing movie that leaves audiences smiling and tapping their toes in joy, but it has serious subtext as well, examining America's civil rights struggle through the eyes of musical artists. It also makes a potent statement about today's digital, auto-tuned recording industry in which non-singers make records and do their own backing vocals, but neglect to infuse their records with the passion and energy that fills the classic songs of the past few decades.

In 20 Feet From Stardom, the filmmakers and singers recount fascinating personal stories about the making of iconic hits by Phil Spector's Wall of Sound, Ike and Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie and many more, giving audiences a glimpse behind the scenes of their favourite records of all time.

And even more important is the way the film puts names and faces to the voices that we never knew were all over our our record collections. These women have massive personalities, and they make the film so memorable that in retrospect it seems impossible than any other movie could have won the Oscar on the big night.

20 Feet From Stardom 4127443 Film Reviews

Entertaining and uplifting, this Oscar-winning documentary tells the unknown story of the back-up singers who made classic records so memorable. Packed with lively, engaging people and fantastic music, the film also offers a sharp look at the music industry over the past 60 years in parallel with the fight for civil rights in America.

In the 1950s, background singers were usually white girls who read sheet-music perfectly. But they were quickly replaced with black artists who learned their craft in churches and could improvise harmonies with the lead singers. Suddenly, pop songs were infused with passion and life, as a handful of unknown singers performed backing vocals on virtually every classic hit since then. With their powerhouse voices and larger-than-life personalities, most have also tried to find success as solo artists. Others prefer to stay in the shadows.

For example, even though established stars acknowledge that she has more talent than any of them, Lisa Fischer prefers the quiet life out of the spotlight. Other belters like Merry Clayton, Tata Vega and Claudia Lennear can be heard on hundreds of timeless classics and are known throughout the industry, but never managed to get their solo careers off the ground. Judith Hill is a young artist who does soaring backing work while waiting for her own music to take off. And Darlene Love is the exception who managed both long background and solo careers.

These gifted singers are also terrific storytellers, taking us on a tour of their work over the decades with anecdotes that are hilarious, jaw-droppingly revelatory and sometimes deeply moving. And the artists they've worked for (including Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and Mick Jagger) have superb stories to recount as well. Along with behind-the-scenes glimpses of hits from Young Americans to Sweet Home Alabama, the film fluidly explores the larger issues both in the music industry and in society at large. So by the end of the film, we're in love with these women whose voices we already knew so well.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor Fighting Warpaint, Ellie Goulding For UK Album Chart Number One 4035962 News

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is back in the charts, baring her teeth with her latest album Wanderlust as it fights for the throne in this week's UK number one. The 34 year-old diva is raring to steal the top perch from current charts hot-shot Ellie Goulding as well as race past current number two, Bruce Springsteen and his album High Hopes.

Sophie Ellis Bextor
Sophie Ellis-Bextor Takes The Charts By Storm...Yet Again!

It won't be all plain sailing for Sophie, who famously denied Victoria Beckham a number one single in 2000 with her debut solo single 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love), but with a further six more Top 10 singles and four Top 40 albums, she's pretty well-placed to do it all over again and blow the other acts out of the water.

Warpaint
Warpaint Will Be Sophie's Main Competition In The Fight For No.1.

Californian rockers Warpaint are putting up a strong fight with their self-titled record. Currently sitting at fifth place in the midweek rankings, the indie unit trail less than 300 copies at this midway stage with their eponymous second studio album, according to the Official Charts Company.

Ellis-Bextor's fifth studio record, which offers a darker sound than her previous disco-dancing songs, was co-written by London singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt and could pick up speed before Sunday to pass the sales of charts stalwart Beyoncé, The Boss and Goulding. Although it won't be a breeze for Sophie, who has had to adapt her noughties sound to a new musical climate, her seemingly innate instinct for an effective, chart slaying song hasn't been lost, as best heard on lead single 'Young Blood.' Not to mention the singer's multi-generational appeal after being around for yonks and having Wanderlust selected as Radio 2's album of the week last week.

Top Again! Bruce Springsteen's High Hopes Delivers 10th UK Number One 4033494 News

Bruce Springsteen certainly had 'High Hopes' for his eighteenth studio album, claiming on his website that it contains "the best of my writing". Springsteen will undoubtedly be delighted to find that his latest work has delivered him a tenth UK number one - propelling himself ahead of ABBA and Queen, and on par with U2 and Rolling Stones - as reported by The Official Charts Company.

Bruce SpringsteenBruce Springsteen Has Scored A UK No.1

High Hopes - officially penned in for a January 14th 2014 release - was accidentally leaked by retail giants Amazon late December. Though the error was sorted swiftly, the album had become available for download through various file sharing websites according to, Billboard.

Springsteen begins touring his new album in Cape Town South Africa (26th January) before returning to his native US with a May 3rd show in New Orleans. It will be the first time he has hit the road since playing at the 'Stand Up For The Heroes' benefit concert in New York (6th November 2013).

After playing the Cape Town gig, Springsteen will be making his full live show available to download, after fans purchase a special USB wristband, Rolling Stone reports, in a bid to "make things more available through the internet". On his Twitter, the New Jersey rocker explained that "they [the fans] will be able to pick one show of their choice to download on their USB wristband"; further explaining the decision in an interview with the NPR, he added "the internet has become our friend... Everything you do is recorded now".
