'Splash' Set To Return With Tom Daley, Despite Poor Critical Response

Despite having been met with a dumbfounded response from viewers and critics alike, the ITV show Splash will be returning in 2014 and Tom Daley, the Olympic champion diver will be signing up to present the show once more. Daley faced criticism for presenting the celebrity diving show but according to The Sun, he released a statement saying that he was thrilled to be involved in the show again.

“I am over the moon to hear Splash! will run for a second season,” Daley’s statement read. “It’s a dream come true for me to be involved in an entertainment show which has been so successful and also fits so well around my training schedule.” His definition of ‘successful may be slightly different to everyone else’s of course. Most people in the TV industry judge ‘success’ on things like ‘ratings’ and ‘critical response’ - neither of which have been favourable for the show (though it's viewer ratings did admittedly build throughout the series. ITV must be working on the basis that ‘all publicity is good publicity it seems, though Daley is proud of the fact that it’s put diving on the map. “Splash! has put diving on primetime TV and diving clubs all across the country have kept telling me that they now have waiting lists, following the popularity of the show. That in itself is an incredible achievement and I’m very excited to be part of it.”

Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards won this year’s series debut and an ITV spokesperson told The Sun “We’re looking forward to even more Saturday night spectacle, and sparkle, with the second series.”
