The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has swung in to top the U.S. box office list with an opening weekend haul of $92 million (Gbp57.5 million), according to studio estimates.
The sequel fell short of an expected $100 million (Gbp62.5 million) take, but distributors at Sony Pictures are expecting the film to continue to lead at the box office in the coming weeks.
Last week's top film, The Other Woman, drops to second place, with a $14.2 million (Gbp8.9 million) second weekend take, while Heaven Is for Real comes in third.
