Bosses behind action movie The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have agreed to adjust the film's production during an upcoming Jewish holiday.
Executives at Columbia Pictures responded to pressure from Orthodox Jewish leaders, who urged them to reschedule filming in Williamsburg, New York, during the festival of Passover.
The shoot, featuring Andrew Garfield in the title role, had planned to shut down several streets in the area from 22 to 27 March (13) but elected officials were concerned this would cause parking problems for Jewish residents, as driving is restricted during the eight-day period.
City Councilman Stephen Levin announced on his blog on Tuesday (19Mar13) that chiefs at Columbia Pictures have agreed to curtail production in the area over Passover.
He writes, "We expressed the importance for Spider-Man to pass-over filming during Passover and they have answered our call. Reducing the amount of parking the production uses will avoid the parking struggle that had been anticipated and will allow everyone celebrating the opportunity to safely enjoy the holiday with friends and family.
"I want to thank Columbia Pictures, Spider-Man, and the Mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting for working together with my office, Community Board 1, and local leaders and considering the needs of my constituents. Thank you for letting my people park."
