Spice Girls 'To Announce Reunion'

by | 28 June 2007

The Spice Girls are set to announce a reunion tour today as the five members of the group appear publicly together for the first time in almost ten years.

Victoria Beckham (then known as Victoria Adams), Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell notched up a string of hits before the latter quit the girl band in 1998.

Posh, Baby, Scary, Sporty and Ginger Spice are now expected to take to the stage again, with reports suggesting that the group are planning six live shows around the world and a greatest hits album.

They are likely to unveil details of the anticipated reunion during a press conference at London's new O2 arena.

In a recent statement the band's management, 19 Entertainment, confirmed that the Spice Girls would "make an official announcement to the world regarding future plans" today.

The expected recreation of the band, who are recognised for having brought so-called "girl power" to the music scene, follows the recent successful reunion of 90s boy band Take That.

Since the Spice Girls went their separate ways, none on the group have achieved the same level of success in their solo careers and their lives have followed very different paths.

Brown is currently involved in a high profile paternity case with Hollywood star Eddie Murphy and Beckham, who has become known as a fashion icon, is also planning a move to the US with her footballer husband David and three sons.

Only Chisholm is yet to become a parent, with Halliwell also now mother to a daughter and Bunton expecting her first child.

Meanwhile it has been claimed that the Spice Girls may not have the singing voices they used to and that they are planning to use special computer technology to automatically correct imperfections in their performances.

An industry source told the Daily Mail newspaper: "As they sing, the computer programme corrects the mistakes so that the sound comes out as the desired sound - so they appear to be able to sing really well live."

However a Spice Girls spokesman insisted that the matter had not been discussed, insisting: "They all have great singing voices."
