Pan's Labyrinth star Alex Angulo has died in a car accident.

The veteran Spanish actor, who was nominated for Goya Awards three times, was 61 when he passed away over the weekend (19-20Jul14).

He appeared in over 60 films after choosing acting as a career in his early 20s, following a stint as a teacher.

He made his movie debut in Accion Mutante in 1993, and earned Goya nominations for performances in The Day of the Beast, Dying of Laughter and The Great Vazquez.

He played the role of Doctor in Guillermo del Toro's cult 2006 film Pan's Labyrinth.
