Soul man Howard Tate has lost his battle with lung cancer at the age of 72.
The Ain't Nobody Home and Get it While You Can hitmaker passed away on Friday (02Dec11).
His life was tinged with sadness - after sudden fame and fortune in the 1960s, Tate fell into obscurity and retired from the music industry.
He sought solace from drugs following the death of his teenage daughter in a fire but turned to religion after a mid-1990s stint in rehab and became a preacher.
'Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing)' arrives in April.
The two awards have made for a great 72nd birthday present for the country music icon.
