Sophia Loren - Sophia Loren To Star On Screen After A Decade Off
World renowned Italian actress Sophia Loren will mark her return to screen with a starring role in a film directed by her son.
Italy's most honoured actress, Sophia Loren, will return to the big screen after nearly ten years' absence with a starring role in La Voce Umana (The Human Voice) which will be directed by Edoardo Ponti, her son with movie producer Carlo Ponti. The film is based on French playwright Jean Cocteau's celebrated play of the same name and, according to United Press International, will be filmed over three weeks in the Italian locations of Rome, Naples and Ostia.

It looked like the 78 year-old actress could have been settling into retirement from screen acting as her last cinematic appearance was in 2004's quirkily titled Too Much Romance...It's Time For Stuffed Peppers. However this won't be the first time Loren has worked with her son; she starred in his 2002 film Cuori estrani(Between Strangers). She did make an appearance as Daniel Day-Lewis' mother in the 2009 Rob Marshall stylised musical, Nine, but this was merely a minor role in comparison to the roles the hugely popular Hollywood star would take in her heyday.

Born Sofia Villani Scicolone, Loren rose to mainstream Hollywood stardom after her 1954 breakthrough role in The Gold of Naples and was signed to a five picture contract with Paramount Pictures. She was the first actress to win an Academy Award for a non-English speaking role for her striking portrayal of a woman who is raped whilst trying to protect her daughter in the midst of war in 1961's Two Women.
Famed for her unrivalled beauty and acting ability, legendary Loren is the epitome of class and old-time Hollywood elegance and her starring role in La Voce Umana is sure to delight.
