Sonisphere Festival Cancelled, Queen Available For Bookings

The organisers of the UK Sonisphere Festival have confirmed that this year's event has been cancelled. The festival had been due to take place between July 6-8 at Knebworth Park, with headliners Queen (with Adam Lambert), Kiss and Faith No More.

Queen were first to announce the news via their website on Wednesday (March 28, 2012), issuing a statement that expressed regret at not being able to return to the same venue as their last show with Freddie Mercury in 1986. It added, "We are disappointed to hear of the cancellation of the Sonisphere Festivals as we were very much looking forward to performing with Adam Lambert and particularly as the venue was Knebworth, our last stand with Freddie". The band announced earlier this year that American Idol runner-up Lambert would be replacing Paul Rodgers as front-man of the group, who originally replaced Mercury. Queen say they are hoping to play the summer shows at a different venue, though all ticketholders for the Sonisphere Festival are entitled to a full re-fund. Though the organisers failed to go into detail over the reasons for the cancellation, a statement read, "Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere's audience would rightly expect".

Previous headliners of the UK's Sonisphere Festival have included Metallica, Linkin Park and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE.
