So, What About A Wonder Woman Movie?

If there is going to be a Justice League movie, it is going to have to include Wonder Woman along with Batman and Superman, but so far screenwriters have failed to get a handle on the character and give her her own blockbuster. However, things could change after the graphic novel Wonder Woman: Earth One by writer Grant Morrison and artist Yanick Paquette is released next year. In an interview with today's (Thursday) Los Angeles Times, Morrison said that he was initially reluctant to tackle the character. If you read about filmmakers talking about Wonder Woman, it's always, Oh, we can't make a Wonder Woman film because people wouldn't buy into this, this, this or this. So it seemed that it was a challenging character. And because I'd done Superman and Batman, I really wanted to do the DC trinity of major characters. So I kind of came to it 'round the back door, but finally realized, 'Yeah, I really want to do something with this and see if I can make it work.' Morrison told the Times that he wanted to return to the type of stories about Wonder Woman told by creator Charles Moulton (the pen name of Charles Moulton Marston) in the 1930s. Wonder Woman was created as an opposition to what he saw as the bloodcurdling masculinity of the comics. He wanted to basically teach young men that submission to the loving authority of a clever and kind woman would be the best way to live, and it would end wars, and it would end the strife of men. So it's a heady mix. All of which seems to suggest that if Morrison's ideas are incorporated into a Wonder Woman movie, fewer cities will wind up being blown up.
