Snoop Caught Up In Reality Tv Legal Battle
Bosses for the New York-based Natural Resources Media + Technology Group claim they made a deal with the rapper over the show concept without knowing about a pre-existing deal with 20th Century Fox, which wanted to develop a feature film about Snoop's coaching exploits.
The deal the plaintiffs signed off on was one that give them exclusive television, cable and video rights.
But, almost as soon as filming started, Fox attorneys issued a cease and desist warning to the producers, informing them of their "exclusive rights to portray Snoop in any motion picture or television project or other production based on Snoop's involvement with his sons' football teams and leagues."
Natural Resources boss COREY SIMMONS then allegedly informed Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus, that he was in breach of the contract by failing to own the rights to the concept.
Filing papers in New York last month (DEC06), Simmons and his partners are seeking $250,000 (GBP128,200) in damages, plus attorney's fees.
Meanwhile, Fox is currently developing a movie, COACH SNOOP, with the rapper and actor.
