Slumdog Is Top Dog At British Critics Awards

Director DANNY BOYLE's critically acclaimed movie SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE has won high praise at the the U.K.'s Richard Attenborough Film Awards, scooping four top prizes. The Oscar-nominated drama picked up honours for Film of the Year, Rising Star of the Year (Dev Patel), and Director of the Year at the critics' awards show.
Patel also walked away with the Best Breakthrough Star accolade - one of four categories voted for by the public.
And the 18 year old couldn't be happier with the recognition: "I have been absolutely amazed by the sheer scale and scope of the reaction to this film and I want to thank everyone for their support."
Meanwhile, Mickey Rourke and Kate Winslet claimed the night's acting awards, and Martin MCDonagh picked up the Screenwriter of The Year award for Colin Farrell's movie In Bruges.
The remaining three People's Choice prizes went to Mamma Mia!, which was named Best British Film of The Year, and The Dark Knight, which claimed the public's Best Film of The Year and Best Film Score honours at Thursday's (29Jan09) ceremony in London.
